June has seen the completion of our two, stone-built bothies set in the heart of Glen Alladale. The bothies (highland cottages) are in keeping with the eco traits which the reserve is renowned for, by ensuring all electricity within the cottages is run off their newly installed hydro electric system.
We have seen lots of new arrivals in June with many red deer calves having now been born. Roe deer are now seen regularly around the lodge with at least one pair of roe kids in the area.
Adders have also been seen on a regular basis and indeed the Head Ranger got a bit too close for comfort on one occasion!
Most encouraging of all has been the evidence of successful regeneration of some of the native trees and in addition to this many trees have been planted this month which will help improve the wildlife habitat in years to come.
