| Dear Friends, Winter has arrived and, as I write this, snow is lying on the high ground at Alladale. We are coming to the end of the peak season and what a summer it has been! Numerous achievements include the completion of our Hydro Turbine, which is now fully operational. We have enough green energy to heat, light and power Alladale Lodge, Ghillie's Rest, Eagle's Crag, staff cottage, workshop, sawmill, kiln dry and a new organic greenhouse that will be completed next summer and will supply the majority of our fruit & veg requirements. “Eagle's Crag” and “Ghillie's Rest”, our two new cottages, will be completed by Spring 09. This will allow us more flexibility to cater for smaller groups of between 2 and 8 guests. Pictured is an artist's impression of Eagles Crag. More details about the design and layout of these warm, cosy and comfortable cottages are available upon request. With these two new buildings our total capacity increases to 22 guests in three buildings. It is quite amazing that Hercules is already over 400kgs at only 18 months old!! | More good news on the reserve is the increase in our native roe deer population which is wonderful to see; for decades roe deer have been pressurised by the non native sika deer. Science Update On the science side, with Oxford University, we are now well over the halfway mark on the boar research programme and in 2009 we will begin work on wildcats, red squirrels, pine martens, and badgers. | |
