Alladale on BBC2
I am pleased to announce that the BBC2 documentary “Moose in the Glen” will be televised at 8.00pm on Wednesday April 16th.
The program is part of the BBC’s Natural World series. This 50 minute film details the vision for Alladale, and includes some magnificent footage not only around the Reserve but also on location in Sweden, South Africa, Argentina and United States.
A special thanks to Mike Birkhead and the BBC’s Natural History unit for supporting and financing this year long project. Later this summer there will be a prime-time six x 30 minute BBC series titled “The Real Monarch of the Glen”; more news on that nearer the time.

Europe's Threatened Ancient Forests
In late February, I hosted a week long research visit to Romania and Slovakia to learn more about the real and worrying threat to one of Europe’s last areas of pristine wilderness.
The Carpathian Mountain Range large still has huge tracts of virgin old growth forests which stretch for hundreds of miles across several countries. These forests are home to a rich mix of amazing wildlife including the rare Chamois, elusive Eurasian Lynx, majestic European Brown Bear and the often maligned Gray Wolf!
In a continent whose natural ecosystems have been far too shaped and ravaged by man over the last millennium, it has become extremely important to take steps and protect those few wilderness areas still in existence - before unregulated and illegal logging finally destroys these last truly unspoilt and inspirational habitats!
I would like to thank my diverse mix of guests – including city figures, ecologists, communications specialists and Professor David MacDonald from Oxford University’s Wildlife & Conservation Research Unit – for the unflagging interest they have all demonstrated on this subject. I will of course keep you informed about the developments in Eastern Europe and how you might be able to help us.
Tom Aikens at Alladale
We recently had the pleasure of hosting Tom and Amber Aikens at the Lodge.
One of Tom’s passions in life is the support of wild areas and landscape restoration.
The Alladale project is so unique and for many wilderness enthusiasts there is no better place in Britain to exercise your interest in native Highland flora and Fauna.
Tom commented that, “Alladale proves a unique retreat for everyone, whether you simply want to lounge by the fire, eat fabulous food, soak up the peaceful atmosphere of a true wilderness admist stunning scenery, or witness first-hand the Highland ecological restoration programme in which Paul Lister and his team are really pushing new boundaries”.
