BBC 2 Launch of “The Real Monarch of the Glen” Series

Next Monday 7th July will see the launch of a six part series about the ‘day to day’ activities up at Alladale.

For over 100 days the film crew followed our every move; unlike the “Moose in the Glen” this series has a more light hearted approach, so we wait with baited breath to as to the results!

For the first six weeks the “Real Monarch of the Glen”, will air on Monday evenings at 8pm BBC2 Scotland, for those in the south you can pick up the show on Sky Channel 990.

We anticipate that the series will then be shown on BBC2 in other regions from the middle of August.

Bear Viewing on Alaska's Katmai Coast

I had the most amazing grizzly bear experience in the autumn of 2006 which I would like to share with you.

Each year Chris Morgan leads incredible trips to Katmai National Park in Alaska. Chris is a British conservation ecologist specializing in international bear research and is great friend of Alladale.

He has a Masters degree in Advanced Ecology and has worked on bear research and environmental education projects in many wild locations including the Himalayas, the Canadian Arctic, Ecuador, the Canadian Rockies, Spain and USA.

I joined Chris and a small party on a trip of a lifetime - aboard a small research vessel that transported us to the vast wildness of Alaska's Katmai coast.

On the 5 day trip, we were faced with unimaginable photography and bear viewing opportunities. At one point we were literally surrounded by 27 bears!

Raising the Awareness of Wilderness & Education

This coming Sunday, 6th July, Hugh Fullerton-Smith (Reserve Manager) & Chris Sandom (Alladale WildCRU ecologist) will run a 10k race in the heart of London in support of Alladale friends, The Wilderness Foundation UK.

The Foundation acts to preserve wilderness areas under threat, through community based projects, advocacy and education. Running as “Team Alladale”, Hugh & Chris would dearly like your help to raise valuable funds for WFUK in order to support their valuable work.
